PIMFA Regulatory Insights Tracker
Welcome to the second version of PIMFA’s Regulatory Insights Tracker. This biannual survey of PIMFA member firms seeks to capture the real-world impact of regulation on the wealth management and financial planning sector.
This latest survey, conducted in Q1 2026, reflects a regulatory environment that remains demanding but shows early signs of easing. While firms recognise the importance of proportionate and outcomes-focused regulation, uncertainty and ongoing change continue to shape how firms allocate time, resources, and investment across their businesses.
The Regulatory Insights Tracker findings can be found here.
Highlights from this version of the Tracker include:
- 78% of firms say regulatory change is diverting time and resources away from other priorities (down from 85%).
- Consumer Duty remains the most time-intensive requirement, cited by 66% of firms (down from 85%).
- Financial Crime and AML/CTF (41%) and regulatory data returns (36%) continue to demand significant focus.
- Operational Resilience and Cyber Security has increased in prominence, cited by 25% of firms (up from 13%).
- Customer Vulnerability has decreased as a priority, cited by 34% of firms (down from 52%).
- 63% of firms do not intend to offer Targeted Support, with only 9% planning to do so from April.
- 45% of firms do not currently plan to offer Simplified Advice, while 36% were awaiting further regulatory detail before deciding.
“Our latest findings show some welcomed movement in the right direction, with regulatory pressure starting to ease and fewer firms seeing the same level of resource strain. That’s encouraging and reflects the progress our members have made across the sector, particularly in areas like customer vulnerability. But firms are still dealing with a lack of clarity, and uptake of Targeted Support and consideration of more Simplified Advice models remains cautious as a result.”
